He joined the Navy in Feb. of 1952 and served until Dec. of 1971. He served first as a Seaman and then as an Aviation Electronics Technician in the Korean War and Vietnam War. After retiring from the Navy, he opened Jackson's TV Repair which he operated until 2006. He enjoyed racing cars. He was the owner and mechanic of Daddy's Toy. He was the driver in his younger days but let his oldest son take over the driving when Tommy was a teenager.
Gene is survived by his son Tracy Jackson; his daughter Tammy Johnson and her husband Don; and his sister Shirley Heath. He is also survived by his grandchildren Troy Jackson and his wife Brandi; Todd Jackson, Jr; Travis Jackson; Taylor Capelle and her husband Brandon; Jonathan Johnson; and Elaine Johnson. He will be greatly missed by his great grandchildren Ashley Sansing; Mason Jackson; and Eliza Johnson. He is also survived by his best friend Connie Childress and her daughter Johvanna Ashely as well as nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, and friends. He is preceded in death by his sons Thomas Jackson and Todd Jackson, his sister Evelyn Cochran, and his parents Sim Jackson and Sylvia Camp Jackson.
Funeral service will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery on December14th at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow immediately. Eternity Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements.
