Born on February 24, 1948 in Marshalltown, Greg was the son of Vernon and Betty (Lapham) Miller. He grew up in Ottumwa and graduated from the Ottumwa High School with the Class of 1966. He attended Kirksville Teachers College for one year before enlisting in the United States Navy where he served from 1968 – 1971 during the Vietnam Conflict before being honorably discharged.
Upon returning home, Greg worked at John Deere Company in Ottumwa for a short time before becoming involved as a self-employed carpenter. Greg enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodcarving and, of course, carpentry.
Survivors include his brother, Robert (Nancy) Miller; his sister, Sherry Ann McCunn; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother, Terry.
