Mike was born on July 6, 1956 to the late James and Magdalena Sweeney.
Mike retired from the United States Army after 26 years of service. He was a Medic and Team Sergeant in Special Forces and was an accomplished parachutist with the Golden Knights where he was a World Cup Champion. During his service he was honored in receiving the Soldier's Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Award) and the Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award). Outside of his career, Mike was a Dallas Cowboys fan, loved to work in the yard with his son, and was a loving dad and granddad.
Mike leaves behind many who will cherish his memory, his wife of 41 years, Louise Sanders Sweeney; sons, Sean Michael Sweeney and wife Brandy, and Christopher Patrick Sweeney and wife Cassandra; grandchildren, Shane Sweeney, Zane Sweeney, and Landon Sweeney; sister, Patricia Boros; sisters-in-law, Linda Hudson, Betty Sapir, Evelyn Niedermeyer, and Treva Sanders; father-in-law Edward Sanders; nieces and nephews, Stephanie Boros, Brian Boros, Sydney Sapir, and Nicholas Niedermeyer and many friends and coworkers.
There will be a visitation for Mike on Sunday, December 5, 2021 from 10:00am until 11:00am and another on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 from 10:30am until 11:30am, both at Adcock Funeral Home, Spring Lake. There will be a committal service at 12:00pm following the visitation on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Ft. Bragg with full military honors.
