Born July 6, 1934, in Mason County, he was the son of the late William Sanford Dyer, Sr. and Elizabeth Dyer. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by eight siblings, infant brother, Marvin Dyer, Kelly Edward Dyer, Tom Dyer, Virginia Dyer, Ethel Kelly, Lillie Smoot, and Phyllis Glascock.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Era Dell Dyer on July 2, 2005; a son, Gary Dyer on May 2, 2017; and a grandson, Ricky Dean Hamilton on November 20, 2012.
Junior is survived by one son, Gerald (Alice) Dyer of Hillsboro; two daughters, Kathy Lynn (Rick) Hamiton of Flemingsburg and Sharon McClanahan of Morehead; 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Beverly Dyer of Fleming County.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea for two years. Junior was a carpenter and a well-known barn builder in Fleming County and other surrounding counties. He was a Pastor and a great Bible scholar. He was a member of the Sharkey Baptist Church and loved reading his Bible and listening to old fashion singing in church.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, December 12, 2021, at Hutton Funeral Home with Pastor Harley Sexton, Jr., Pastor Elijah Sexton, and Pastor Billy Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021, and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, December 12, 2021, at Hutton Funeral Home, 7634 Hillsboro Road, Hillsboro, KY 41049.
