Joan was born on May 31, 1941 in Perry, Oklahoma to Arlie and Leona (Beier) Musick. Joan grew up on a farm east of Perry. She graduated from Perry High School in 1959 and later furthered her education at Cosmetology School.
Joan married James H. Curtis at the Zion Lutheran Church in Perry on June 1, 1962. She served alongside her husband in France as he served in the military. Joan always placed family and faith first in her life. She was a lifelong devoted member of the Zion Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and served as Superintendent. She loved to bake and enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables from her own garden. She was especially known for her peach cobbler and Yum Yum cake. Together with her husband they started numerous small businesses including Curtis Honey Farm and Curtis Building Center. Later in life Joan was a daycare teacher at the First United Methodist Church of Edmond. Joan was always present and a part of her children and grandchildren's lives in a very tangible way. She shaped each of them to be the person they are today. She loved her grandkids and great grands. It was very evident by those who knew her. She is preceded in death by her husband, James H. Curtis and her parents, Arlie and Leona Musick.
