Darrell Alder passed away on December 5 in Vancouver at age 94. He was born in Camas on June 25, 1927 to Orval and Zona Wilson Alder. Darrell was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving on the USS West Virginia. He had a lifetime of service to residents of Washougal as a volunteer firefighter, Fire Chief for 26 years, and later as a City Councilperson. He was a dedicated family man, loved the outdoors, was well-read, and was a man of honesty, integrity, and service to others. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Sharon, wives Shirley of 46 years and Patricia of 18 years. He is survived by his children Sharyl Mackay (Robin), Shelley Byers (Eric Hansen), Dan Alder (Janet), grandchildren Derek Byers, Adam Byers, Zach Byers, Hayley Deal, Danielle Alder, Shae Alder, and six great-grandchildren. Service will be at the graveside at Washougal Memorial Cemetery on Wednesday, December 15, at 11 am. All are welcome.
