She was born in Trenton, New Jersey in 1923 and lived there throughout her childhood, graduating from Trenton Central High School as one of the first three Black students to do so. After completing her high school education, she joined the U.S. Army in 1945 initially serving in the Women's Army Corps; later, after her discharge from the Service in 1958, she went on to marry and start a family. Lorraine married Juttie Jones III (U.S. Army) in France and had her first two children while living there. After returning to New Jersey, she became a housewife and a secretarial employee for the State of New Jersey...working there until the family moved to the Philippines after her husband's transfer there. With her husband's posting back to the U.S. in 1970, she moved to Virginia where she remained for the remainder of her life and where she later had her third son.
Lorraine, an avid reader with an intense interest in current events, was a very devoted Mother and always put her family first. She had always been a devout follower of the Scriptures and enjoyed reading the Bible and supported several Television Ministries. She loved hosting family gatherings, enjoying time with family and friends, and reveling in holidays, birthdays, and get-togethers. She also loved traveling, which she did extensively while serving in the Military and where she traveled throughout Europe. Lorraine was also an enthusiastic baseball fan, rarely missing her son's games. She forged many deep and lasting friendships in her lifetime, especially during her and her husband's military service years, and cherished each and every one.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband Juttie, her father Allen Madden, her mother Parthenia Toliver and her brothers and sisters Walden, Edward, Cliff, Blanche, and Alberta. She is survived by her sons Michael, Robert, and Brian; by her grandchildren Devon, Tempeste, and Michael; and by her great-grandchildren Layla and Juttie Donald. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
