Vanessa Kay "Katy" (Eldridge) Burton, 36, a longtime Atoka area resident, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, on Forrest Hill Road in Atoka County. Born Sept. 15, 1971, in Atoka, she was the daughter of Earl E. "Buddy" Eldridge and Margie Ann (Blann) Eldridge. She attended and graduated from Tushka schools and then went to Southeastern State University, graduating with a degree in chemistry and biology in 1989. She married Jamie Burton on March 7, 1992, in Blackjack. She worked for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation as a criminalist/chemist since 1996 in Durant and McAlester. She was a member of the Blackjack Baptist Church and taught Sunday school. She did drug programs in schools and through her job. She enjoyed her family, especially her children and enjoyed spending time with them. She also enjoyed horseback riding and exercising. Survivors include her husband, Jamie L. Burton, of the home; children, Jessie Blake Burton, of the home, Tyler Anson Burton, of the home, and Hannah Lee Burton, of the home. Also, parents, Buddy and Margie Eldridge, of Atoka; sister, Melissa Eldridge, Dallas; in-laws, Randall and Shirley Burton, of Willow, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Jessie Burton, Trask Meadows, Austin Daniel, Sean Keeler, Justin Hall, and Dewayne Tomlinson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ty Burton, Austin Graham, Jordan Mobbs, and Waylon Henderson. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Ruby Blann, and Floyd and Maggie Eldridge, and her grandmother-in-law, Lillian Lealme Sewell. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brown's Chapel with the Rev. Gene Sluder officiating, assisted by Arvel Hall. Burial will be at Bethany Cemetery in Atoka. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service of Atoka.
