Sophia Jane "Sophie" Catherman, 82, of Altoona, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, at her home. She was a daughter of the late Charles H. Sr. and Theresa (Kneidenger) Angermeier. Sophie married the late James R. Catherman Sr., on Feb. 28, 1984. He preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 2003.
Surviving are a son, Stephen A. (Karen J.) Barr of Altoona; a granddaughter, Hannah R. (Joshua McMillan) Barr of Altoona; a brother, John Angermeier of Emmaus, Pa.; her best buddy, Frankie; her special friend, Gary Helsel; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Sophie was preceded in death by three sisters, Ann Mercer, Marcella Angermeier, and Patricia Treese; and a brother, Charles H. Angermeier, Jr.
She attended Bellwood-Antis High School and was a member of Altoona First Church of the Brethren.
Sophie enjoyed watching Hallmark movies, gardening, flowers, and spending time with her family. She was a lifetime member of the Bavarian Aid Society, Altoona.
A celebration of life is being planned for a future date.
Interment will be made at Carson Valley Cemetery, Duncansville.
