Richard Walter Olson, age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, December 6, 2021 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 113 5th Ave. East, Leland, Iowa with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating.

A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Monday.

Burial will be held at Forest Home Cemetery in Leland.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Leland, Iowa.

Richard was born to Walter and Gertrude (Campbell) Olson in Omaha, Nebraska on March 29, 1934. Soon after that the family moved back to his father's hometown of Forest City, Iowa. For the first 5 years of his life, he lived with his aunt and uncle Mollie (Olson) and Carl Halvorson in Forest City. At the age of 5 he moved to the family farm east of Leland to live with his father and 2 sisters where he attended a country school near his home. He then attended school in Forest City.

On February 18, 1955 he married the love of his life Donna June Kramer at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Woden, Iowa. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary before her death on March 6, 2018. They had three daughters Dian, Cynthia, and Susan.

For a number of years Richard farmed with his father. He continued farming after his father's death while also running a grain trucking business. He then was employed as a heavy equipment operator for LaHarv Construction in Forest City. As most everyone in Forest City does at one time in their life; he then worked at Winnebago Industries. He claimed he retired but started a metal salvage business as well as reselling farm implements.

Richard was a talented mechanic who could repair many types of machinery. He had a love of all things cars which included rebuilding a Mustang Sprint 6. Richard enjoyed many hobbies such as woodworking, golfing, gardening, hunting, and watching Iowa Hawkeye football. He enjoyed spending time with the Leland Seniors group and playing cards.

Richard and Donna were members of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Leland, Iowa where he often volunteered his services.

Richard and Donna enjoyed traveling, to visit their daughters, Dian in Massachusetts and Susan along with her husband Mark and granddaughters, Alyssa and McKenzie in Colorado. They also enjoyed spending their winters in Mission Texas for many years.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Dian Olson of Medford, MA, Susan (Mark) Tegtmeyer, Centennial CO; granddaughters, Alyssa and McKenzie, Centennial, CO. As well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Donna; daughter, Cynthia; his parents, Walter and Gertude and his sisters, Mary Lou Willrett and Arlene Peck.
