In 1946, she married Wilbert S. Wheeler Jr. and together they raised six children. Anna instilled in her children a love for the Creator and a strong sense of family values. Anna was a devoted member of Pilgrim Baptist Church in Red Bank, NJ for more than 30 years. She additionally served as a missionary and sang in multiple choirs.
Anna was very creative. She loved writing and reciting poetry. She also had a caring heart which she demonstrated by taking time to visit sick ones, young people, and older folks. She was delighted when her sons made regular visits and showered her with flowers and gifts. She especially enjoyed spending time singing and dancing with her grand and great-grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoyed visiting the boardwalk, playing various games such as dominos, Uno and doing word search puzzles.
Anna had an endearing way of connecting with people. She warmly referred to her family and friends as "Mary," "Jackson," or "Babycakes." When her loved ones were upset, her words of wisdom were, "Stay mad, until you're glad."
Left to cherish Anna's memory are her children Carl Wheeler of Neptune, Carolyn A. Foster of Neptune, Quentin D. Wheeler (Phuong) of Zurich, Switzerland, and Richard A. Wheeler (Rachel) of Lake Forest, IL; her sister Bertha Young and brother-in-law Lester; grandchildren: Sonya (Michael), Carlton (Michelle), Carla (Kevin), Tracy, Tyrone, Ezra (Sanel), Raymond (Delia), Richard (Sha Rhonda), Terrell, Alfonso, and Denzel. Anna had a host of great and great great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews who will greatly miss her.
Anna is predeceased by her husband Wilbert S. Wheeler Jr., children Samuel T. Wheeler and Wilbert S. Wheeler III; son-in-law Raymond Foster; and siblings: Russell Proctor, William Proctor, Lucy Brown, Jessie Walker, Grace Rice, Bernice Johnson and Joshua Proctor.
"Mom" or "Granny" as she was affectionately called had a fun-loving spirit, infectious laugh, and a witty sense of humor. She will remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
Friends and family are invited to visit from 10AM to 12PM on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021 at the Ely Funeral Home, Neptune. The funeral discourse will begin at 12P with the burial to follow in Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet.
