Richard "Dick" Lee Anderson

1940-2021

Richard (Dick) Lee Anderson, 81, of Edmond, Oklahoma, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 5, 2021.

Dick was born on the family farm southwest of Shickley, Nebraska, February 18, 1940 to Eleanor E. (Koch) and Eugene L. Anderson. He was baptized on March 17, 1940 on June 14, 1953 at Zion Lutheran Church in Shickley, Nebraska.

He grew up on the farm attending grade school at Ong and Shickley Public Schools. He attended the first three years of high school at Shickley until the family moved to Geneva, Nebraska. Dick had a love of sports. He played football, basketball, baseball and ran track. After graduating from Geneva High School, he attended Doane College in Crete Nebraska where he studied accounting and played on the varsity basketball team. It was at Doane College that he met the love of his life, Leah Watson. Leah and Dick were married on July 25, 1959 at the First Congregational Church in Crete, Nebraska. God blessed their union with four children: two sons – Jim and David and two daughters – Laura and Linda.

Dick started working in Public Accounting and later entered the Insurance Industry as an Accountant. He retired in 2004 after being Chief Financial Officer of the Life Division of United Insurance Company for 16 years. In 2003 Dick started working on Genealogy. He enjoyed this very much and would sit at the computer for hours searching for his ancestors. He continued this until his death.

Dick's wife Leah, granddaughter Megan Leah, parents, brother Bob and brother-in-law Roger Bates preceded him in death. He is survived by sons, Jim (Jeanne) Anderson of Beaverton, Oregon, David (Lisa) Anderson of Midwest City, Oklahoma; daughters, Laura (Dave) Hutcheson of Belleville, Illinois and Linda (Molly Sharp) Anderson of Beaver Dam Virginia; grandsons, Connor and Jimmy (Amelia), granddaughters Jamie, Maggie and Kayla; great-granddaughters Ashleigh, Emily and Marilyn, great-grandson Elias Richard, sister Jenice Bates of Syracuse, Nebraska; sister-in-law Mariann Anderson of Geneva, Nebraska, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Matthews Funeral Home. A service of celebration for the life of Dick will be at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 308 N.W. 164th, Edmond, Oklahoma at 10:30 a.m. on December 9, 2021. Interment will be in the Shickley Public Cemetery, Shickley, Nebraska.
