CAROL ANN HAFFNER HAYES was born December 22, 1940 to Edward B. Haffner and Annabelle Schnell Haffner in Enid, Oklahoma, the youngest of five children. She passed to her rest 30 days following hospitalization for Covid-19 on November 4, 2021, preceded in death by her husband, DAVID OLIVER HAYES, on October 23, 2021, also from Covid-19.

Carol was raised in a very close-knit, loving, and spiritual family. Her parents firmly believed in providing a good education, especially a Bible-based one, for their five children. The Haffner family left Oklahoma to move to Keene, Texas, so that their children could attend school at the Seventh-day Adventist schools in the small town just south of Fort Worth. Following Junior College, Carol attended nursing school at Union College School of Nursing at Porter Hospital in Denver, Colorado.

Carol worked as a nurse in various hospitals and at home nursing facilities throughout her career. She also taught nursing and served as girl's dean at Fletcher Adventist Academy in Fletcher, North Carolina. When Carol's parents were in declining health, Carol and Oliver added a small home for them on their property that became a frequent gathering place for all Carol's family.

While Carol had no children of her own, she was greatly loved by and doted on her many nieces and nephews, and stepchildren. Several often visited and a few occasionally lived with Carol throughout the years.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Oliver, her parents, Edward and Annabelle Haffner, her two sisters, Erma Haffner Webb and Rosalie Haffner Lee Zinke, a brother Edward L Haffner, brothers-in-law, Kenneth Lee and David Zinke, and sisters-in-law, Della Henneberg Haffner and Cynthia LaPlante Haffner. Carol is survived by her next older brother, Harold L. Haffner, brother-in-law Jim Webb, and many nieces, nephews, and stepchildren.

Memorial Services for both Carol and Oliver Hayes will be held at the Hendersonville Seventh-day Adventist Church at 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 11, 2021.
