Mary Ellen Meyer, 70, of Prairie Home, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021, at her home.

Visitation for Mary will be Monday December 13 at Howard Funeral Home from 10:00 to 11:30 A.M., with a rosary being recited at 11:30. Inurnment will be at 1:00 P.M at Annunciation Catholic Church Cemetery in California, MO., with Fr. Alex Gabriel officiating.

She was born March 31, 1951, in California, MO, the daughter of Ben Dorsey and Lillian (Wyss) Meyer. Mary attended elementary and high school at Prairie Home, graduating in 1969. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1973, and her master's degree in elementary curriculum and instruction from MU in 1978. She taught for forty years at St. Brendan Catholic School in Mexico, MO, from 1973 to 2013, beginning with first grade for nine years, then second grade for thirty-one years.

During her teaching years, Mary was involved, in several school and parish activities, including after school children's choir, organist for school and Sunday masses, area coordinator for Bellarmine Speech Meets, Girl Scout Leader, high school youth group leader, parish RCIA team. She received the 2002 Mexico Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year Award, and in 2010 was one of the KPLA radio finalists in Apples for Teachers. Mary loved all animals, but especially her cats, whom she totally spoiled. She also enjoyed reading, music, flower gardening, traveling, and living on the farm.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived, by her brother Dwight and sister-in-law Mary Ann of Prairie Home, and two nephews, Justin of Jefferson City and Shawn (Chelsea) and Great Niece Bethany of New Franklin.
