OMAHA - Steven Eugene Arnold, 77, of Kearney died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021 at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha with his wife Sharon and his sons, Mitch and Jeff, by his side.
A celebration of life gathering will be 2-5 p.m. Dec. 12 at Kearney Eagles Club, 17 W. 24th St.
--
Steve was born in Lost Springs, Kansas, to Vernon and Clara (Petri) Arnold. Steve graduated from Omaha North High School. Out of high school, Steve was in the Marine Reserves for six years and often spoke fondly of those experiences.
On Jan. 4, 1972, he married Sharon Powers at Phillipsburg, Kansas. Steve worked 38 years between Holiday Station Stores and Casey's General Store. He enjoyed the relationships he made with customers and always admired the large groups of fire department and law enforcement customers who stopped in.
Steve had a liver transplant in 2007 and spent a good part of his last 20 years of employment working through health problems, but proudly maintained a good attitude and great attendance. We are thankful for the organ donor who gave him a second life, and the team at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha who always took excellent care of him. They were truly amazing.
Steve loved his grandchildren and saw the best traits in all of them. He went to many of their events through good and bad weather and health, and always walked away with a joyful take on them no matter how well they performed, or what level of competition it was. The grandkids knew that hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa probably meant ice cream somewhere along the way and frequently ended with his popcorn recipe on the stove top. It was legendary to them.
Survivors include his wife Sharon Arnold; sons, Mitch Arnold (Michele) and Jeff Arnold (Megan), all of Kearney; sister Karen Montgomery (Monty) of Seeley Lake, Montana; brother James Arnold (Tricia) of Carter Lake, Iowa; and his grandchildren, Logan, Huston, Bronson, Bentley (Mitch's) and Nolan, Dexter and Lucy (Jeff's); and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Clara Arnold; and siblings, Kathryn Stuedemann and Michael Arnold.
