Carolyn Miller Gibson passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at the Presbyterian Kaseman Inpatient Hospice Unit in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she was being cared for after suffering the complications of a broken hip and Lewy Body Dementia.
Born the fourth child of Marvin Z. and Pearl Miller on April 17, 1937 in Chattanooga TN, Carolyn grew up in the Cleveland, TN area. She graduated from Bradley County High School in 1956, where she was the President of the FHA Club. She married John Duncan Gibson Jr. in Chattanooga on November 15, 1958. Their first daughter, Gwen, was born in Chattanooga and daughter Melanie was born after their move to Decatur, Georgia. Gwen tragically died while they were residing in Petersburg, VA in 1968.
Carolyn is preceded in death by parents, MZ, Pearl, and step mother Ollie May Millaway Miller ; sister Celestine Hooper (Dave Hooper) and Betty Bowman; husband John Duncan Gibson Jr, daughter Gwen Gibson, and sister-in-laws Barbara (Cecil) Read, Mary Shirley (Nelson) Kriegner, Patricia (Robert) Lee, Bun Gibson and Peggye Raney and many nieces and nephews.
Survivors include daughter Melanie Davis (Tom), grandchildren Scott Josephson, Seth Josephson, step grandchildren Christie Davis (Greg VanHorn), John Thompson (Carrie) and step great grandchildren Finnegan VanHorn, Madisen Vogel and Elle Vogel.
Graveside internment will be Saturday, Dec. 18 at 11:00 AM CST at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Nashville, TN.
