Mr. John Louis "Chief" Lane, 65, of Canoochee passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Candler County Hospital following an extended illness.

Mr. Lane was born May 31, 1956, in Swainsboro to David M. Lane and Jean Bunn Lane. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Terry Lane; sister, Bonnie Lane Jones.

Mr. Lane began his law enforcement career in 1975 in Garfield, patrolling the roads and ended his career as Chief of Police in Twin City. He served his community with a generous heart. Mr. Lane used his great sense of humor to win over the likes of all he met. He loved driving his race car, #5, and riding horses in his younger years, and tending to and caring for his cows. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family. Mr. Lane was a dedicated husband, Daddy, and Pa. He was a true and faithful servant to the Lord and his family. Mr. Lane was a member of Canoochee Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Donna Lane of Canoochee; son, John David Lane (Faith Patrick) of Canoochee; daughters, Brandi Hood (Randy) and Misty Lane (Nick Beasley), both of Swainsboro, Kelly Collins (Bryson) of Metter, Hope Jones (Bowen) of Stillmore; sister, Becky Johnson (Steve) of Canoochee; grandchildren, Macy Messex (Drew), Mason McKenzie, Joeley Hood, Erin Hood, Riley McKenzie, Reagan McKenzie, Cason Collins, Raycen McKenzie, Carsyn Jones; great-grandchildren, Farrah Jo Messex, Lakelyn Grace Brown; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Canoochee Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Wiggins and Mr. Leroy Lane officiating.

Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, December 6, 2021, at Chapman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Adam Lane, Rusty Lane, Chase Johnson, Clay Johnson, Leroy Lane, and Stephen White.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Emanuel County Sheriff's Department, Twin City Police Department, Swainsboro Police Department, Sheriff Robert Oglesby, Trooper Payton Riner, Chief Glenn Giles, Chief Curtis Armstrong, and Retired Chief Wayne Cain.
