Dovie Marie Wells Dennis, 84, of Stanton, KY, died on Monday, March 1, 2004, at the Transitional Care Unit of Clark Regional Medical Center in Winchester, KY. Daughter of the late James Jackson and Lillie Sparks Wells, she was born on Nov 21, 1919 and was a native of Powell County. She was married to James Ishmael "Ish" Dennis. He preceded her in death. She and her late husband owned and operated Smathers & Co., a general merchandise store in Stanton, KY for more than 40 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Stanton Christian Church. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny Clark and Debbie Dennis of Campbellsville and James Edward and Kathryn Dennis of Stanton; three granddaughters and their spouses, Laura Rose and Larry Jr. Young; Sarah Nell and Toby Howell and Anna Kate and Jon Skidmore, all of Stanton; two grandsons, David Clark Dennis of Louisville, KY and James Adam Dennis of Lexington KY; two great grandchildren, Macey Rose Howell and Colton Layne Young, both of Stanton; and a special niece, Sondra Wells Faulkner of Mt. Sterling. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Grant Wells, Lloyd Wells, Lonnie Wells and Vernon Wells. Funeral will be at 2pm on Thursday, March 4 at Stanton Christian Church with the Rev. David Bowden and the Rev. David Rule officiating. Burial will follow in the Stanton Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were Pearl Raymond, Margie Mastin, Andrea Fortney, Juanita and Dewey Randall, Louise and Jess Rogers, Elsie Martin, Millie Anber, Daisey Rice, Lina Mare Skidmore, Brenda Patrick, Ann & Dr. Sam Cecil, Dr. Bryan Andreas, Dr. William Wittman and the caregivers at the Clark Regional Memorial Center. Dovie Marie Wells Dennis, 84, Main Street, Stanton, widow of james Ishmael "Ish" Dennie, died Monday afternoon in the transitional care unit of Clark Regional Medical Center. A native of Powell County, she was the daughter of the late James Jackson & Lillie Sparks Wells and the stepdaughter of the late Coin Bowen. She and her husband owned and operated Smathers & Co, a general merchandise store in Stanton, for more than 40 years. She was a homemake and a member of the Stanton christian Church. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, three granddaughters, two grandsons, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at 2pm Thursday at the Stanton Christian Church by Rev. David Bowden and Rev. David Rule. Burial will be in the Stanton Cemetery. Friends may call the church after 4pm today. Memorials may take the form of contributions to The Transitional Care Unit of The Clark Regional Medical Center, c/o Renee Mays, 1107 W.
