Gregg Gordon Johnson, 75, known to most as "Gordie," died peacefully in his sleep on December 5, 2021 under the care of his family and St. Croix Hospice. He is reunited in death with his parents, Cecil and Ruth Johnson, brother Alan Johnson, as well as other relatives and loved ones.

Gordie was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on October 10, 1946, and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1965. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and proudly served in the reserves for six years.

He held a variety of jobs over the years, but eventually took over the family business Cecil's Café. Gordie was also co-owner of Iowa International Raceway, a nationally known go-kart track and enjoyed being involved in the racing community. He served on the Marshalltown City Council, and as Marshall County Supervisor.

Gordie is survived by his wife Debbie (Hubbard) of 35 years and their twin sons, John (Kate) and Adam (Maryann), and daughter Laura (Jonathan) Beason, and five grandchildren.

In accordance to Gordie's wishes, he will be cremated. A visitation will be held at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A Celebration of life will follow the services under the direction of the family at the American Legion in Marshalltown. Please bring your favorite Gordie stories (G-rated only!) to share.
