Elaine was also preceded in death by 3 sisters, Elsie Breit, Eleanor VanderHagen, and Evelyn Cates, 4 brothers – Edward, Lawrence, William, and Frank VanderHagen.
On May 5, 1951 Elaine married her high school sweetheart, Alexander Pyclik, who survives, along with their 3 sons, David, Gary (Jane), Brian (Kathleen); 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Pyclik, Cindy (Jeremy) Jones, Cathy (Brad) Atkins, Mark (Emily) Pyclik, Janelle (Eric) Nijak; 4 great-grandchildren, Keiten Jones, Cash and Isla Atkins, Grace Pyclik; several nieces and nephews. She also had a special affection for her daughter-in law, Judy Pyclik.
Elaine was employed for 40 years in food services by the South Bend Community School Corporation. She was able to make many friends with her co-workers and staff but it was her interactions with the students that she enjoyed the most.
She was a devout member of the old St. Mary's of the Assumption Parish and later at Our Lady of Hungary. Christmas was her favorite time of the year and she would always be sure to make it special for everyone. She enjoyed her yearly Las Vegas vacation trips and going to the Blue-Chip Casino in Michigan City but it was just spending time with her family that she deeply cherished. Though later in life she had to deal with several serious health issues, you could always look at her and smile while remembering all of the great memories she provided. We will miss you dearly.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Anita, Tina, and Rebecca, the Center for Hospice Care nurses, for the caring and compassionate services they provided.
A Memorial Visitation will be held in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 828 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend from 11:00 pm to 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 9, 2021 with funeral service to begin at 1:00 pm, in the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will take place at the St. Joseph Cemetery in South Bend.
