Joan Elizabeth Ball, 89, of Alpena passed away Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Sally's Care Home.


Joan Elizabeth Youngs was born in Lapeer on April 10, 1932, to the late John and Dorothy (Beardsley) Youngs. On June 16, 1951, she married Lawrence Ball. He preceded her in death on November 11, 2013. Joan worked as a telephone operator for GTE. She was a member of St. John Church of All Saints Parish and its altar society.


Surviving are 3 children, Susan Cordes, John (Annette) Ball, Thomas (Kris) Ball; 7 grandchildren, Jeremy (Keena) Ball, Jessica (Greg) McVicker, Kayla (Justin) Kollien, Tait Ball, Natalie (Natasha) Cordes, Billy Cordes, Nicholas (Helen-Ann) Cordes; 7 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.


Mrs. Ball was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Elaine Lyons, Irene Plantz, Marianne Lockland, Mildred Bradshaw, and Irma Primeau.

Mrs. Mary Law spent the past week in Lapeer with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Ball and attended the wedding of her grandson, Larry Ball, of East Tawas. The wedding service was Saturday morning in Lapeer.

Cpl. Lawrence Ball Weds Lapeer Girl

Miss Joanne Youngs, daughter of Mrs. Dorothy Youngs of Lapeer, and Cpl. Lawrence Ball, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Ball, Sr., of Tawas City, formerly of Cass City, were married Saturday morning, June 16, in Lapeer Immaculate Conception Church. The church was decorated with white mixed bouquets.

The bride, given in marriage by her uncle, Ralph Youngs, of Cass City, was gowned in Chantilly lace and net and wore a fingertip length veil. She carried a bouquet of white tea roses.

Miss Rosemary Ball, sister of the groom, as maid of honor and Mrs. Elmer Ball, sister of the bride, as bridesmaid chose gowns of yellow and blue, respectively. Their gowns were fashioned of lace and net and they wore matching hats and carried bouquets of yellow and pink roses. Flower girl was Kay Hebert, Bay City, and she wore a gown which matched that of the bride.

A. J. Murray, Cass City, and Harvey Primeau, Garden City, attended the groom and Jerry Lynn Lyons, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer and wore a miniature army uniform.

Following the ceremony open house was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Ball.

A reception was held in the evening at the American Legion Building in Lapeer.

The groom's mother wore a grey suit with pink accessories and the mother of the bride wore a navy suit with white accessories. Both mothers wore corsages of pink and white carnations.

Guests were present from Flint, Carleton, Unionville, Gagetown, Talms, Minden City, Bay City, Bad Axe, Auburn, Cass City and other places.
