Anita Burrell was born June 8, 1952 to Howard Burrell and Ethel Dawson in Keokuk, Iowa. She grew up in Des Moines and went on to live in Sioux City for nine years, Denver for ten years, and California for three years.

Anita was an intelligent and independent woman, working as a data entry and file clerk for over 40 years. Anita loved playing Bingo, going out to eat, watching WWF, and laughing with friends and family, especially her children and grandchildren. Anita was an open book, you never had to guess what was on her mind.

Anita was a long time member of Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Alex Crawford, Jr. as well as Corinthian Baptist Church. She was very active in her churches and was always there to lend a helping hand.

Anita decided to return to school when she was in her 60's. She attended DMACC and received Associate degrees in General Studies (2014) and Applied Science and Human Studies (2015).

Anita went home to be with the Lord on March 8, 2021. She was preceded in death by her son Dentarrel Burrell; parents, Howard Burrell and Ethel Lewis; dad, Harold Lewis and brother, Alfred Burrell.

Anita is survived by her children, Kimberly (Roy) Brown, Gerald Douglas, Jerome (Crystal) Burrell; siblings, Carl Dawson, Patricia Dawson; grandchildren, Kennedy Brown, Kalena Hodge, Gerald Douglas, III, King Douglas, Kai Douglas, Ramonie Fuller, Alexis Wright, Jordan Wright, Alicia Wright, Angel White, Allena Rumley, and Rourick Rumley; bonus grandchildren, Castro Brannon, October Hodge, Victoria Hodge, Shytai Taylor, Dejhanai McCree, Ashyah Taylor, Nazire Newton and Aaliyah, Reggie, Anthony, Alexander, and Azekiel Williams, along with a host of extended family members and friends.
