Derlene was born to Odis and Lela Grace Short on December 6, 1945 in Erick Oklahoma. She had two older brothers Alvin and Joe and one younger brother Ronnie Short.
She had three children Cammy, James and Larraine.

She worked as a CNA most of her life and owned a resale shop toward the end of her life with her daughter Larraine. She loved garage sales, estate sales and bargains.
She passed away from metastatic reoccurring breast cancer that went to the Bone and kidney after a 13-month long battle. She passed peacefully surrounded by some of her family.
