Sandy was born on June 29, 1952, in Buncombe County to the late Charles Posey, Sr. and Joyce Strope Posey. She was a homemaker and attended Kenilworth Presbyterian Church in Asheville.
Sandy was a very talented and creative lady who taught classes on ceramics and cross-stitch needle work. She loved connecting on Facebook and socializing with friends. Sandy was also known as "Shorty" which was an endearing nick- name her family gave her. She would entertain you with her tall tales and was quite the card with her sense of humor. Sandy had a strong will, and she endured a lot of medical hardships and fought until the end. She was tough but the love of her family and friends helped see her through.
In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Jerry Banks in January of 2020.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Chris Banks of Asheville; three brothers, Charles Posey, Sr. of Hawaii, Gene (Susan) Posey of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Tim (Robyn) Posey of Palm Coast, FL; and her sweet cat, Purdy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Kenilworth Presbyterian Church, 123 Kenilworth Rd., Asheville, NC 28803, conducted by Reverend Allen Smith.
