Mary Alicia Flores, known by family and friends as Alice, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at her home in San Antonio with her family by her side.

Alice was born June 19, 1955 to Renee Valdez and Louis Arriola Montalvo in San Antonio, Texas. Those who knew her from afar might say she was sweet, soft spoken, and humble, but those who walked closely with her have a deeper story to tell. A glimpse into her heart revealed a woman who was fierce in her faith, extravagant in her love, and passionate in her service to others. From a young age Alice decided she would always be committed to giving 110% in whatever the Lord had asked of her with excellence and faithfulness. And she did so until she took her last breath on November 24th.

As a single mom Alice continually gave all she had to provide for her family, even to the point of exhaustion. In her work, as in her faith, Alice was committed to excellence. As a 911 dispatcher, she earned numerous awards from the San Antonio Police Department, the mayor, and then governor, George W. Bush. In addition to her work at the police department, Alice ran a small cleaning business to further support her children. After marrying John C. Flores her commitment to serve her family and the Lord continued. With a loving partner at her side she was able to put more energy into ministry. She served at her local church in every area she could from leading Church greeters to providing food for grieving families to hosting Bible studies.

But her true commitment to serving the Lord was even more evident in what she did to remind others they were treasured and loved. Over the years, she baked hundreds of birthday cakes, hand-delivering them to those she knew and loved so no one was forgotten on their special day. She sent family and friends thousands of handwritten cards over the years filled with words of love and encouragement and lots of confetti. She made every person she met feel welcome and treated them like family. She stood by their side from the moment she met them until the Lord called them home. Despite the loss of her own husband to cancer, she never stopped offering the hope of healing and deliverance in Christ to others that faced the same. She always declared to the hopeless and sick, it's not over until God says it's over, and believed that with all her heart.

Alice was extremely generous with her time and money, always looking for someone to bless. She would give her last dollar to someone in need if God put that on her heart. Alice dressed and lived very simply, but gave and loved extravagantly. Her faith never wavered because she knew the Lord would provide no matter how much of herself she gave.

Alice was a loving mother and the spiritual head of her family. She was a prayer warrior, trusting in God's steadfast commitment to her and her family. She walked closely with Jesus her whole life and her faith deepened even-further over the last few years. Her strengthened relationship with Him made her a fighter in her own battle with cancer and she did so with grace and faith knowing Jesus would be her ultimate reward. With this great confidence, she fought hard, ran the race set out for her, and never gave up until the Lord opened up Heaven and sent down a rescue mission to return her to Him. Though she is missed we find comfort knowing her earthly fight is over and she's returned to His loving arms.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 15 years, John C. Flores; her parents; and her sisters, Sonia Garcia and Emma Flores. She is survived by her daughter, Anna Quesada and husband Steven; son, Joseph O'Neill and wife Shivaun; grandchildren, Zoey, Kate, and Eloise Quesada and Waylon James O'Neill; brother, Louie Montalvo; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends.
