She attended grade school at Lyons and the one room school house N.W. of Hartford both of which are now long gone. From there it was on to Madison, Lake Central High School when the family purchased a farm nearby. After graduation as a proud Bulldog in 1965, she attended Saint John's School of Nursing at Huron, South Dakota and graduated June 1, 1969.

During her last year at Saint John's she joined the Army Nursing Corps and volunteered for duty in Vietnam. She served humbly with the 91st Evac. Hospital critical care unit. Upon returning, she remained on active duty for 10 years as a critical care nurse.

Darla graduated from Sonoma State University in June, 1980 with a B.S. in nursing.

While stationed in Hawaii, she met and married Lt. Col. Rick Ebert on April 15, 1989. They eventually moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Rick passed away suddenly in March of 2002.

Commendations during her career include the Meritorious Service Medal, The Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal.

Life and love returned again when she married David Woods on May 22, 2004. They lived outside of Divide, Colorado. Tragically, David died suddenly on August 4, 2015. After David's death, she returned to her home state, South Dakota, as there are numerous family members in the state.
