Marvin Lee Boos, Sr., passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the age of 95. He was born June 26, 1913 in Mobile, Alabama and moved to Jacksonville at an early age. He was predeceased by his parents Louis William Boos and Ida Lenora Wimpee, a brother Maurice Marion Boos and two sisters, Leola Griffin and LeEtta Voss. Marvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Betty Jo; two sons, Marvin Lee Boos, Jr. (Cecilia) of Welaka, and David Louis Boos (Sandy) of Jacksonville; three grandchildren Christine Lee Bertand (Raymond) and Jaime Lynn Johns (Anthony) of Jacksonville, and Jeanie Leigh Helton (Jimmy) of Hamptonville, North Carolina; four great-grandchildren, Annabella Denise Johns and David Robert Johns of Jacksonville, and Jenna Lee Helton and Joleigh Louise Helton of Hamptonville, North Carolina, and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, a member of William B. Barnett Masonic Lodge #187, Scottish Rite, Morocco Temple, and emeritus member of the Drum and Bugle Corps. He was employed by the JEA for 29 years retiring in 1972. During his employment with the city, he served as President of City Employees Local 1048 and on many committees having do with benefits for city employees including a committee to study consolidation. He served 32 years on the Pension Advisory Committee for the General Employees Pension Fund during and after his retirement, he was very active in the Retired City Employees Association, was a past president and currently serving on the Advisory Panel at the time of his death. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 18th, 2009 from 6-8:00 p.m., at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home 4315 Main Street. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 19th, 2009 at the funeral home with Pastor Terry Gore officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Funeral arrangements are by the Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4315 Main St., Jacksonville.
