Evelyn Marie (Guunáani) Shields, 76, died Nov. 3, 2021, in Saxman.

She was born on Sept. 10, 1945, in Saxman.

In addition to residing in Saxman for 60 years, she also lived in Chicago; Seattle; Everett, Washington; and Vancouver, Washington.

Evelyn Shields was a homemaker. She also was an Avon associate, and worked in canneries and in housekeeping. She volunteered with seniors in the community.

She was a member of The Salvation Army, and Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 15.

She enjoyed beading and sewing, crocheting, going to garage sales, traditional family gatherings, senior luncheons, traveling and spending time with the grandchildren.

Evelyn Shields was preceded in death by her father, Albert Shields Sr.; mother, Martha Shields; brothers, Frank Howard Jr., Frederick John, Albert Shields Jr. and Lawrence Shields Sr.; sisters, Cecelia White, Alvina Martinez and Priscilla Dewitt; daughters, Julie Wasuli and Dorothy "Doe" Garza-Guthrie; and grandson, David A. Blair Jr.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021, at the Red Hall in Saxman, officiated by the Rev. Jeff White. A nightwatch will follow the memorial service. A celebration of life will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021, at the Red Hall in Saxman, followed by a graveside service beginning at approximately 11 a.m. -11:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021, at Bayview cemetery, officiated by Major Jos Govaars.
