Craig James "CJ" Bass was born November 25, 1991 in Mason City, the eldest son of Terry and Cindy (Eckhart) Bass. He was soon joined by his younger brother Blake, and grew up together in Northwood. During high school, CJ worked at the Lutheran Retirement home and was very active in FFA, 4H and Trap Shooting. In 2010 he graduated from Northwood-Kensett High School. For many years CJ worked at Casey's.

CJ never truly met a stranger. He loved people and found joy in making others laugh. He enjoyed evenings spent around the campfire socializing and telling tales. He cherished his friends dearly and looked forward to time together. CJ was called to the outdoors, and loved to spend his time on the local lakes hunting and fishing. He shared countless hours with his grandpa Craig with their poles in the water, competing in tournaments and catching the big ones while enjoying each other's company. CJ looked forward to time spent helping his parents with National Wild Turkey Federation events and duties. Through his life CJ encountered many medical hurdles, and with his family at his side, they conquered every single one. He loved his family dearly, and will be missed even more.

Those left to carry on his story are his parents, Terry and Cindy Bass of Northwood; his brother, Blake Bass of Mason City; maternal grandparents, Craig and Jan Eckhart of Northwood; paternal grandparents Jim (Penny) Bass of Charles City and Dave Coburn of Mason City; maternal aunt and uncles, Lori (Mike) Zimmer and Berdale Nelson; numerous paternal aunts and uncles; his beloved feline companion, Manson; as well as numerous cousins, extended family members and friends.

Greeting him in Heaven are his paternal grandmother, Marcine (Dana) Nicholson-Coburn; paternal step- grandfather, Mike Nicholson; paternal uncle, Scott Bass; paternal great-grandparents, Dorothy Nicholson, Russ Bass and Ruth and Dale Chestek; maternal great-grandparents, Pinky and Maxine Pelham and Lon and Alice Gray.
