George was a son of William Dalgleish (1812-1892) and Euphemia Wight (1812-1882), Scottish immigrants who settled in Waterloo County, Ontario.

George married Veronica "Fanny" Schrum on October 14, 1885, in Hespeler, Ontario. The couple lived in Waterloo Township, where George was a farmer. They had a daughter, Euphemia Beatrice "Effie" (b. 1890) and an adopted son, Albert Prickett (1897-1968), a British child who came to Canada in 1907.

George died on July 29, 1931, at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Ontario, from arteriolosclerosis. A death record noted that he sustained a broken hip "by jumping from a moving vehicle & falling on the gravel roadway."
