Daughter of Susan & Jasper McKay

Miss Beulah McKay, a longtime teacher and cattlewoman, died February 1 at the Tyler Holmes Hospital at Winona, following an extended illness.

She was 77 years old January 7.

Born January 7, 1890 on her father's plantation in Carroll County, she lived there until the age of nine, when she moved to Carrollton and attended school.

She later went to M.S.C.W. at Columbus, majoring in music, and afterwards, continued her music studies in Chicago.

After teaching music for about two years, she entered business school at the University of Texas and later opened a secretarial school at El Dorado, Arkansas, which she operated until failing eyesight forced her to sell the business.

Miss McKay then returned to Carroll County to live in a cottage she had earlier built on her father's plantation. She went into the cattle business and became very active in Coila and Carrollton, where she had many friends.

In August, 1965, in failing health, she went to live at the retirement home at Grenada. After breaking her hip in a recent fall, she entered the Winona hospital, where she died February 1.

Survivors include a brother, John A. McKay of Memphis; three sisters, Mrs. L. R. Sanford, Winter Park, Florida; Mrs. J. B. Mitchell, Osceola, Arkansas, Mrs. Louis J. Arata, Sarasota, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
