Howard worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for 42 years. He moved to Missoula in 1969.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and playing pool. Howard also loved music. He was a member of the Second District Montana Old Time Fiddlers Association and Moose Lodge No. 556 for many years.
Survivors include his wife Ethel; six children, Leah Mitchell; Donald Goforth; John Goforth; Edward Goforth; Nancy Sprague; and Robert Goforth. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
