A Taylor's Mountain girl, Vickie Lynn Bailey, 70, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus, with her devoted husband Wayne and loving son Tory at her side Monday, November 29, 2021. Vickie and her dear family were blessed with a miraculous 3 years of life following a diagnosis of a Stage 4 Glioblastoma brain tumor. Countless prayers were lifted by all those who love her and were answered by her merciful and loving Father, to provide precious time to spend with her family before journeying to her eternal home.
Vickie was born in Salem, Virginia, on September 23, 1951, to Hobert Carter and Julia Fulton Carter. Although Vickie had a challenging young life, her attitude always remained positive and she gracefully overcame adversities, always seeing things for the best. Vickie graduated from Liberty High School where she was a track star and cheerleader. She was strong athletically and academically, always excelling in whatever endeavor she chose. As Vickie got older, she remained active as a swimmer. Amazingly she participated in the Senior Olympics winning second and third place in her sport, merely 6 months prior to receiving her cancer diagnosis!
Vickie was joyously married to her high school sweetheart Wayne for over 50 years and their love story is one for the books. It was "love at first sight" for Wayne the moment he laid eyes on Vickie in the 5th grade! The love they shared shone brightly for all to behold. They married on June 25, 1970 in Bedford, Virginia at Bedford United Methodist Church and began their beautiful life together, a life that would be full of adventure and their united passion for music. Wayne and Vickie shared in the gift of song, and she was his "12th rose." This gift was passed on to their son by singing him awake each morning and to sleep with lullabies every night of his young life. (Of course, only after reading a story that he had memorized, not allowing mom or dad to skip a page!) They harmonized together both in life and music until the last hours of her life. They performed for countless audiences through the years and their charismatic ways drew more fans than they could have ever imagined. Blessed with the voice of an angel, Vickie sang through the "storms that never last" of life and relished the gift God bestowed upon her especially when "times got tough". That was when they "saved their nickels and dimes in love". The Bailey family moved to Nashville to pursue their country music dreams many years ago, and it is there they found the true significance of life. They found that although dreams are wonderful, inspiring, and worthy of following, they are not what matters most in life. They found that love is what matters most. Love is what unites, strengthens, and endures. True joy is found in love and love is one thing that never passes away. Vickie will always be loved by her family, friends and fans. Love lives on for eternity.
