MELISSA P KING / JUNE 19, 1927 – NOVEMBER 29, 2021

Melissa P. King, 94, Rome, Ga., died November 29, 2021 at a local hospital following a lengthy illness.

A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mrs. King was born June 19, 1927, the daughter of the late William M. Peacock, Sr. and Susan Melissa Copeland King. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late John H. King, Jr. on Feb. 28, 2000.

Mrs. King had attended Shorter College. She was active in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees with her husband and was active with the Sr. Adult Group at First Baptist Church of Rome. She taught all ages in Sunday School at First Baptist and taught Sr. Adults classes at Second Avenue Baptist while a member there.

She also served as House Mother for the Heart of the Community Heart House and was a volunteer at the Redmond Regional Medical Center since 2001 and a volunteer with the Harbin Clinic since 2008 until failing health prevented her from continuing.

Survivors include on son, John William (Bill) King and daughter-in-law Louetta M. King of Rome; one daughter, Charlotte Diane Hulgan and son-in-law Gary L. Hulgan of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one grandson Lt. Col. Patrick L. King, USAF, and wife, Erin King; granddaughter, Kimberly M. King of Rome; two great grandsons, Bennett Logan King of San Antonio, Tx. and Henry Wyatt Parrish of Rome, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of Daniel's Funeral Home on Monday, December 6 at 1:30 p.m. with visitation following the service. Interment will be for family members only. Rev. Billy Murdock, Chaplain at Redmond Regional Medical Center officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the First Baptist Church of Rome, Senior Adult Ministry or charities of choice.
