Thomas Elwin Payne September 17, 1937 - December 1, 2021
SUMMERFIELD – Thomas Elwin Payne, 84, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Yellow Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 5733 Summit Road, Purlear, NC 28665 with Reverend Donnie Chandler officiating. Military honors will be provided by the North Carolina National Guard. The family will greet friends at the residence and immediately following the graveside service at the cemetery. Mr. Payne was born on September 17, 1937 in Wilkes County to the late Dorman Thomas Payne and Effie Camilla Beshears Payne. He served his country honorably in the United States Army and retired from Lorillard after nearlt forty years of service. Thomas was a member of The Old Country Church and enjoyed restoring old cars and loving on his animals. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Thomas "Malcolm" Payne and brother, Eric Payne. Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Barbara Anderson Payne; son, Mark Andrew Payne (Annette); grandchildren, Justin Payne (Emily) and Emily Payne; aunt, Betty Beshears, cousins, Becky and Debbie and nieces, Ellen Markle and Stephanie Wilser.
