Wayne R. Stewart, 92, of rural Larrabee, Iowa, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, November 26, 2021 at MercyOne Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 2nd, at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Pastor Jonathan Caldwell will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Cemetery at Larrabee, Iowa prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday morning. Friends are welcome to attend the burial service. There will be military rites at the cemetery by L.A. Wescott Post #2253 of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. If your heart is stirred to spread God's light in honor of Wayne; in lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial gifts be sent to Cherokee Regional Hospice or the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee.

Wayne was born on March 19, 1929 at Larrabee, Iowa to George & Elizabeth (Friedrichsen) Stewart. He graduated from Larrabee High School in 1946 where he played basketball and baseball. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Seabees from March of 1951 until being honorably discharged in March of 1955. He farmed with his brother Floyd near Cleghorn, Iowa for a short time.

Wayne was married to Betty L. Beck on February 27, 1956 at Dakota City, Nebraska. He and Betty started farming together on a farm northeast of Larrabee. Farming and ranching were his passions. He enjoyed planting and harvesting their crops and managing the livestock. He loved riding horses and buying cattle. Wayne never really retired as he continued to be involved with his land and crop development.

Wayne was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir and had served on the Board of Trustees. He had served on the Larrabee Co-op Elevator Board, Cherokee County Planning & Zoning Board, and the Cherokee Country Club Board where he was a longtime member and loved to play golf whenever he had the time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty on March 21, 2017, son Thomas E. Stewart in 1970, his siblings Glen Stewart, Ethel Stewart in infancy, Sadie (Larry) Speaker, Lucille (Gerald) Dahnke, Donald Stewart, Gertrude (Lewis) Raney, Floyd (Berniece) Stewart, Esther (Roy) Pearson and a nephew Dennis Stewart.

Left to cherish Wayne's memory are his daughter Elizabeth and her husband Richard of Morristown, MN, Granddaughter Sarah James and husband Jesse of Waseca, MN; 3 great-grandchildren: Carson, Parker and Peyton all from Waseca, MN. 2- step Grandson's: Sam Prescher and his family from Waseca, MN and Seth Prescher and his family from Morristown, MN. Sisters-in-law: Bonnie Beck of Cherokee, IA, Donna Pigott Mummert of Plano, TX. and Gen Stewart of Fulda, MN; also many nieces and nephews and special friends Jerry and Julie Berglund.
