Donna Buckles Thompson passed away on November 28, 2021 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital with her husband and two sons by her side.

Donna was born in Abingdon, Va. on July 12, 1945, the daughter of the late Nancy Wolford Buckles and Claude L. Buckles, Sr.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Mike; sons Dr. Aaron Thompson and daughter-in-law Ali, and Jason Thompson and daughter-in-law Jennifer; granddaughters Gabriella, Caroline, Emma, and twins Avery and Lily; sister Doris Quintana (William); brother Claude L. Buckles, Jr. (Diane); nieces Christine Puttock and Nancy Halliburton; great-niece Madeline Puttock; aunt Betty Wolford Dishman (Rev. Clarence); many wonderful and loving cousins; and special brothers-in-law Tim, Don, and Greg (Jennifer) and their families who loved her so much.

Donna became a member of Reynolds Memorial United Methodist Church in 1960 by certificate of transfer from First Methodist Church in Beckley, W.Va. She and Mike were married at Reynolds Memorial in 1965 and attended there with their sons.

She was a graduate of John S. Battle High School. She worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation and served in many capacities throughout her career, retiring in 2007 as the Bristol District Human Resource Manager.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 3, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Following the visitation, the funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Scott Spence officiating. The graveside service and burial will follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park.
