HALEY, Barry Scott Passed away at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital on September 11, 2015 at the age of 53 years. He had been treated for some years for thyroid cancer. At age 17, Barry suffered a head trauma injury as a passenger in a friend's auto while given a ride home after high school in Sacramento, CA. After surviving a coma, and extensive patient care, Barry returned to graduate from John F. Kennedy High School in south Sacramento and continued his daily therapy at Easter Seals Rehab, also in Sacramento. Later, when his dad, Bill Haley, passed away, Barry, his brother Brian, and mother, Nancy, all began living in Santa Rosa, supporting Barry while he resided at The Belden House, a residence in downtown Santa Rosa devoted to providing care for head trauma people. Barry also went to work at Redwood Empire Industries, a resource available for people pursuing independent living. The Haley family wanted to help Barry create a new life style after losing his right hand and starting to use a wheelchair. He kept a positive attitude and found new ideas to use. He loved getting to know new people and made many friends along the way. Nancy Haley, his mother, took him home on the weekends and they planned fun things to do to keep him stimulated. His brother, Brian, drove him to the Easter Seals summer camp every year in Santa Cruz County, which he loved to attend for several weeks each session. He attended the camp for 30 years. Barry made many friends with his outgoing personality and humorous stories and leaves us admiring a handsome, articulate man in or out of his wheelchair. Barry is survived by his mother, Nancy, brother Brian, and brother-in-law David Bowes. He was preceded in death by his father, William. The family would like to thank the many friends who sent sympathy cards and suggests one sending a donation of support to Easter Seals, Attn. Camp Harmon, 9010 Soquel Drive, Aptos, CA 95003 or The Belden House, 606 Humboldt Street, Santa Rosa, CA 95404, in lieu of flowers. Private interment in San Mateo County is planned.
