He was raised in Brooklyn, NY, and was the real-life bank guard in what became the movie Dog Day Afternoon.
Calvin served as a Marine in Vietnam and worked at Child's Hospital and the Albany VA.
On April 11, 1976, Calvin was delivered from sin through baptism in Jesus' name and being filled with the Holy Ghost. He dedicated his life to God's service as a member of Redemption Church of Christ under the leadership of Pastor Elder John and Joan Massey and volunteered at Redemption Christian Academy as a scholarship fund solicitor ("Cookie Man").
Calvin became a lead singer for the church choir and often sang solos for Sunday services.
Calvin volunteered as an RCA male student supervisor and often cooked his famous Sunday dinner of barbeque chicken, rice, and string beans for the boarding students.
Calvin, who had suffered many service-related illnesses and debilitating strokes, lived at the James A Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center for five years.
Calvin departed this earth on Thanksgiving evening, November 25, 2021, at 8:16 p.m. and went to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ. His was a beautiful transition.
He was predeceased by his mother, Beatrice Knight (Jones) Person; father, Jack Jones; stepfather, Weldon Person; brothers, William Knight, John Jones, and Walter Jones; sister, Clara; brother-in-law, Ernest Williams ( Shirley); and father-in-law, William H Merritt (9/11/21).
Calvin will forever be loved by his wife of 44 years, Georgenna; daughters, Gennelle (John) and Genniese; son, Corey; remaining sibling, Shirley Ann; mother-in-law, Georgia P. Merrit; sisters-in-law, Hadiya (Walter), Anita (Thaddeus), Angela (Jay); brother-in-law, William H. Merritt, Jr. (Lynette); nieces, nephews, cousins, especially Freddie, other family members, members of the church and school, former students, coworkers, customers, and friends.
Interment will occur at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
