She is preceded in death by both of her parents; a stepfather, John A. Highnote; her daughter, Shirley D. Ivey; her brother, Vernon Bradley Stephens; a stepson, Glenn Adams; a step daughter-in-law, Polly Seward; and two step grandsons, Clay Adams and Dustin Adams.

She is survived by one son, Jeffrey K. Averett and Michael Garrison of Dawson, Georgia; one daughter, Sheila (Stephen) Jones of Rome, Georgia; one son-in-law, Joe (Judy) Ivey of LaGrange, Georgia; four grandchildren: Eric (Shannon) Ivey of Buena Vista, Georgia, Rene (Larry) Driggers of Lexington, South Carolina, and Kendall and Ryker Jones of Rome, Georgia; one great-grandson, Justin Ivey of Buena Vista, Georgia; one stepson, Terry (Debra) Adams of Preston, Georgia; one step daughter-in-law, Lynn Dublac; five step grandchildren, 11 step great-grandchildren, one step great-great granddaughter, and several nieces and a nephew.

Helen started working at Bulloch Exchange Bank in Preston in 1948, where she worked until 1972. After her marriage to Albert C. Adams, she was bookkeeper for the Adams Food Center, Terry's Sports Center and Adams Appliance until they retired in 1987. In 1995, Helen went back to work at the Preston Branch of Citizens Bank of Americus and retired in 2010 at the age of 81. After that she drove to Marshallville, Georgia, every week for two years to keep her new grandson, Ryker Jones, and his sister Kendall.

Helen joined Enterprise Baptist Church in Richland at the age of 13 and served faithfully as the church's pianist until her death. She was pianist for the Mathis Quartet in the 1960s, the Joymakers Quartet in the 1980s, and the Heaven Bound Quartet in the 1990s. In addition to playing piano and singing, she loved to work with her hands sewing, painting, and being creative.

She enjoyed working in her yard when she was able, keeping it mowed and manicured. Helen also loved keeping in touch with old friends and family members, speaking regularly with them over the telephone up until her death. Above all, and second only to God, Helen loved and adored her family and spending time with them. A true Southern lady, she will be remembered for her Christian witness and for her kindness and faithfulness to all who knew and loved her.

A Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Enterprise Baptist Church, Richland, Georgia from 12:30 – 1:15 PM. The Church Service will begin at 1:30 p.m., followed by a committal service at Harmony Cemetery.
