Carol Burns, age 85, of York, passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at York General Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 4th at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Aurora. Rev. Penny Schulz will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery.

Carol Ione Burns, the daughter of Marlow N. and Grace May (Maw) Van Horn, was born in Aurora, Nebraska on August 28, 1936 and passed away in York, Nebraska on November 27, 2021 at the age of 85.

She grew up in the Aurora/Giltner area and graduated from Aurora High School Class of 1954.

Carol was married to DeMar Shaland Burns on December 10, 1954 at Aurora. They had three girls, Ruth, Roma, and Rhonda. During his military career they lived in Alaska, Alabama, North Carolina, Arizona, and Texas. After raising their girls, Carol worked as a grocery checker and at a clothing store.

Carol was a member of the Aurora American Auxiliary, the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Mary Lanning Hospital Auxiliary, and the Presbyterian U.C.C., where she had served on several committees. Carol's hobbies included bowling, playing cards and doing crafts. She loved her family, especially her grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, DeMar on May 13, 2020 and sister, Roma Read.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Ruth (A.J.) Santiago of Crestview, Florida, Roma (Steve) Rees of Grand Island, and Rhonda Burns of Tampa, Florida; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Wylie Schuett of Bloomfield and Vendla Wrick of Norfolk and several nieces & nephews, relatives and many dear friends.
