Julia Armstrong

Julia Elizabeth Dickson Armstrong, a resident of the Gardens of Statesville, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2007. She was born on Jan. 10, 1917, in Binghamton, N.Y., and was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Livermore Dickson. Mrs. Armstrong graduated from Binghamton public schools in New York and the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. Her marriage was to John Armstrong, who died on Dec. 31, 1984. A dietitian by vocation, she was director of the dietary department at Camden Clark Hospital in Parkersburg, W.Va., and the TB Sanitarium in Beckley, W.Va., in the early days of her career. Later, she and her husband were co-owners of the Western Auto Store in Vienna, W.Va., until retirement. Mrs. Armstrong was a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Parkersburg, W.Va. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Ann Margaret Armstrong Grimm; a brother, John; and a sister, Cleone. Mrs. Armstrong is survived by five grandchildren, Paula Bogard of York, Maine, Paul Grimm Jr. of Gilbert, S.C., Ruby A. Grimm of Statesville, Jeri Magdy of Fort Wayne, Ind., and John Scott Grimm of Vienna, W.Va.; 12 great- grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be conducted in West Virginia at a later date, with burial in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Parkersburg, W.Va. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625. Arrangements for Julia Armstrong are in the care of Nicholson Funeral Home.
