Christine Lawhorne Marrs, 75, of Arrington, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at the Lynchburg General Hospital. Born in Nelson County (Tyro) on April 16, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Billy and Betty Lawhorne.
Christine was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a retired veteran, having served as a telecommunications operator for the U.S. Air Force and was employed as a CNA for the Lynchburg Training School, where she worked until retirement.
She is survived by three sons, Russell Marrs III and his wife, Rosemary, of Afton, Jerry Marrs of Arrington and Ricky Marrs and his wife, Martha, also of Arrington; three daughters, Wanda Bryant and her husband, Michael D., of Shipman, Becky Bryant and her husband, Mike E., of Amherst and Connie Bryant and her husband, Bernard, of Wingina; a brother, Marshall Lawhorne, and his wife, Sally, of Pennsylvania; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Russell James Marrs Jr.; a sister, Myrtle Tillery; a brother, Telly Lawhorne; and a daughter-in-law, Jenny Marrs.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home by the Rev. Buddy Bryant with burial to follow in Bethlehem Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Jan. 8, 2010, at the funeral home.
