Son of Francois Colliard (1829 – 1901) and his wife Laurette (nee Castella, 1825 – 1893)

Married in Chatel-Saint-Denis, Fribourg, Switzerland, on June 13, 1888. Came to Canada with a young family in 1893. He and his wife were joining her family in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, MB. After a brief stay there, they ventured to Custer County, Colorado, only to return just a few years later to Manitoba.

By 1921, the family had relocated once again, this time to the area of Duncan, BC. This was the family home from that time on, and many of the couple's descendants are inhabitants of Vancouver Island to this day (2021).

Among the families honoured with a dedicated marker in the old cemetery in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes as among the many Fribourgeois to settle in the area in the first years of European immigration and colonization, noting that the spelling at the time was given as "Couillard".
