JOY. A small word that means so much to our family. We love it! We share it! We believe it! We choose it! Joy was a spectacular woman who lived an amazing life, surrounded by the love of her family. We know that she inspired us, along with many others. Not everyone was blessed enough to think that their Mom hung the moon and the stars, but we were. We lovingly say that Mom was tough as woodpecker lips, which she proved time and time again.
Mom loved to spend her time quilting, doing jigsaw puzzles, playing dominoes, Phase 10, and Skip-Bo (which she won the majority of games), playing her favorite slots at casinos, and making her famous chicken and dumplings. She went on several cruises, taking her to places she never dreamed of visiting, such as Cozumel, Cancun, Progresso, Jamaica, Grand Cayman Islands, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Aruba, Curacao, and St. Kitts. She loved to travel, and was a regular attendee at the Mudbug Festival in Shreveport, LA every year since 2011.
Joy Lee Shirrell White was born on July 11, 1934 in Arab, MO to Delbert and Pauline Bain Shirrell. Her siblings were Ruby Deckard, Kenneth Shirrell, Rev. James Shirrell, and is survived by Patsy Slocum of Puxico, MO.
She peacefully passed away on Sunday November 14, 2021 at her home in Brownwood, MO, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 87 years.
Joy was united in marriage to James Henry White on October 15, 1960. He preceded her in death on April 19, 2015.
Loving children include three daughters, Deborah Kay Shirrell Crump (Art) of San Antonio, TX, Kimberly Sue White Talley of Arlington, TX , Pamela June White Welker of Advance, MO, and two sons, Edward Ray White (Ruth) of Advance, MO, and Jamie Lee White of Advance, MO.
