God recalled one of His most precious angels on November 20, 2021 at the age of 39 unexpectedly following surgery.
Megan Allen is survived by her Mom, Jeanne (Jim) Griffin, who loved her more than life itself, and her adoring Dad, Tim Allen. Beloved brothers, Aaron (Noni Hackbarth) Griffin, Nathan (Lindsey) Griffin, and Michael (Courtney) Griffin. Proud grandparents Vivian (the late Jackson) Smith, and the late Harold "Red" and Katherine Allen. Treasured uncles and aunts Michael (Lexie) Smith, Christian (Lydia) King, Martha (Kevin) Williams, Jeffrey Stone, Paul Smith, Mary Mascari, Patrick (Kathy Burns) Allen, Cathy (Val) Zalaiskalns, Mary Kay (Bernie) Miller, Peggy (Dan) Conklin, Dennis (the late Patty) Allen, Jeff (the late Colleen) Crocker. Special cousins Elizabeth (Andy) Yunker, Stephen (Sarah) Stone, Paige and Preston Smith and many more.
Early on, Megan made it clear that she was strong, courageous, brave, and determined. She battled many physical obstacles in her early life, but persevered. She loved her life, family, and friends unconditionally. Megan loved a party and was a beautiful, shinning force when she entered a room. Always the first to say "Hello" and the last to say "Goodbye". Her smile was a blessing to all who knew her.
After graduation from Brookfield East High School in 2003, she began her best life at the Adaptive Community Approach Program (ACAP) in Waukesha. Her favorite community services included delivering Meals on Wheels, volunteering for Graffiti Effacers, Habitat for Humanity, and Plowshare, baking biscuits for visitors and potential animal adopters at the HAWS animal shelter, helping shop for the elderly, and most recently volunteering at CARE , a bird sanctuary in Waukesha. She advocated for the rights of people with disabilities and spoke with lawmakers in Madison about the need to fund programs. She was loved at ACAP, and she loved everyone back with the same intensity.
The Green Bay Packers lost one of their most enthusiastic fans. She kept her Mom and step-Dad updated on all the stats and facts. She had all things Packers in her room: jerseys, earrings, pendants, blankets, and a cover for her recliner. If she happened to fall asleep before the game ended, her first questions in the morning were: "Did the Packers win? What was the score?"
Nothing excited Megan more than going to a music concert. One of her first was Peter, Paul, and Mary with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. More recently, she saw Jason Mraz at the Riverside. She was so looking forward to a Queen tribute concert we had planned when she arrived in Florida December 20th. She told everyone that she was disappointed that Freddie had passed away but was assured that the person singing his songs would be "almost as good". Now she has the opportunity to listen to him sing "We Will Rock You," one of her favorites, in a front row seat for a live performance. I'm sure she's loving it!
Megan was a proud Special Olympian and charter member of The Elmbrook Kids, now called Team Elmbrook, earning many ribbons and medals for bowling, track and field, basketball skills, and bocce ball. She passionately loved all of her teammates and will be missed by all.
Thank you to ARCh for the many years of advocacy, Christmas parties, and socials. Thank you to the Works of Mercy for the special times Megan and her BFF Ellen shared at camp, many times carrying out various pranks on the camp counselors! These wonderful organizations added tremendously to the quality of her full and active social and spiritual life.
Megan lived in a St. Coletta group home in Waukesha for 15 years. She was the "big sister" to housemates Colette, Angie and Erin, who will miss her dearly. Megan was a woman of faith, attending mass regularly and enjoyed bible study. She was a kind and gentle soul; always giving and helping. The world lost a wonderful person. This is her legacy: to remind us all to be kinder, gentler, loving, giving, and forgiving.
Megan's Mom would like to thank all of you who treated Megan with dignity, patience, and love. I would like to thank each of you individually, but you know who you are.
