Patricia (Patty) Coleman Dorland of Montgomery Village, MD, passed away on September 23, 2020, at her home. Patty was born in Canton, OH, on January 12, 1927, the only child of Marion and Marjorie (Gravis) Coleman. On August 13, 1949, Patty married the love of her life, James (Jim) R. Dorland. Patty leaves behind daughters Cindy (John) Reilly, Tracy Johnson (Lawrence), and Molly (Christopher) Padgett; grandchildren Kerry and James (Kristin) Reilly, Luke Johnson, Cory (Denny) Douglas, Melody and Forrest Padgett; and great grandchildren Lance and Clara Douglas. Patty was predeceased by her husband Jim (2008) and grandchildren Jami Shawn Neff (1977) and Matthew Paul Reilly (2020).
Patty graduated from Mount Marie Academy in Canton OH, and Stephens College in Columbia, MO. Patty and Jim lived in Canton, OH, until 1965 when they relocated to Wheaton, MD, where they lived until they moved to Morrisville, NY, in 1982. In Morrisville, Patty worked in the library at SUNY Morrisville. In 1992, they retired to Montgomery Village, MD. They regularly attended services at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC. Although Patty volunteered for a variety of charitable organizations, her work with Meals on Wheels was especially meaningful. She was an optimistic, gentle, caring person, loved by all who knew her.
