Joel, son of Jack and Ragnhild Larson was born on September 4, 1929 at Forman, North Dakota. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Marlow on April 16, 1951. They made their home in Havana, North Dakota until moving to Milnor in 2009.
Joel honorably served in the US Navy during the Korean conflict and spent part of his tour in the Mediterranean area, enjoying time at the various parts in that region. He often talked about his time on the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt and was proud of his service to his country.
Joel had a great love for music and played several instruments including accordion, guitar and piano. Their home was often filled with many friends and neighbors that came to dance and listen to him play. He was also an avid listener of many musical programs on television and regularly watched them for many hours on end.
He is survived by his children, James (Karen) Larson, Jean (Curtis) Anderson, Joan Craig, LeeAnn (Brian) Ormand, Judy (Scott) Carlen, Jackie (Todd) Ekstrom and Joel (Jessica) Larson; nineteen grandchildren; and thirty-two great-grandchildren. He was also survived by two sisters. Joel was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine, parents, three sisters, three brothers, and an infant son.
A private, family only, memorial service will be held at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in Milnor. Burial will be at Havana Cemetery near Havana, North Dakota. Officiating will be his good friend and neighbor, Rick Bryant, and Chad Larson, his grand-child from Minnesota.
