Ruby was a member of Palmyra Church of Christ, where she enjoyed playing the piano during services, and teaching children's Sunday school. She was also a valuable member of the community throughout her life, serving over 35 years as a school board member on the Knox Educational Service Center, and the Knox County Career Center. She also held several other jobs during her life, including as a legal secretary, an assistant at a doctor's office, and as a receptionist at Ward Kraft. She also supported her husband, Howard, in his various business endeavors for over forty years. Ruby's most important station in life by far, however, was as a Mother to nine children; including six preschoolers at the age of twenty four. In her free time, Ruby enjoyed many hobbies, including music, making apple butter and strawberry jam, walking, playing piano, traveling, crocheting, enjoying a good cup of coffee, and spending time with her family and friends.
Ruby loved unconditionally. Not only did she emphatically love her family and friends, but Ruby was a champion for anyone in the community going through difficult times. She lived a life of selflessness, always putting others' needs before her own. Ruby was also a comforter who had a remarkable gift for knowing exactly the right words to say to people to help them get through whatever they might be facing in their lives. Finally, Ruby was the voice of kindness, understanding and comfort to anyone who knew her.
Ruby is survived by her husband of 59 years, Howard Miller, and her seven children, Connie Farley of Denver, Colorado, Joe (Debbie) Miller of Dallas, Texas, Carla (Paul) Douglas of Bellville, Ohio, Norman (Terri) Peters of Columbus, Ohio, Lisa (Mike) Smith of Fredericktown, Ohio, Amy (Tom) Clark of Fredericktown, Ohio, and Weston (Sarah) Miller of Medford, New Jersey. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren: eighteen great-grandchildren, her sister Corena Blankenship, and her lifetime best friend and sister-in-law, Donna Turner.
Along with her parents, Ruby is preceded in death by her late husband, George Peters, her sons Jack Miller and Brent Peters, her brothers Forest Turner, Floyd Turner, Clyde Turner and Donald Turner; and her sisters Dorothy Pinkerton and Lenora McGough.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 29, 2021, from 4-7 PM at the Palmyra Church of Christ; 21184 Zolman Road, Fredericktown, Ohio 43019, with a memorial service celebrating the life of Ruby on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, starting at 11 AM with Evangelist Troy Northrop officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
