Joseph (Joe) C. Martin, Sr., 88, of Glen Allen, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, November 20, 2021. He was born on February 22, 1933 to William Clyde Martin and Disa B. Norstrand. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. In 1957, he met the love of his life, Cookie (Lorraine). Theirs was a love story for the ages. They married in January 1960, raised two children together and were devoted to each other for over 61 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Disa and two sisters, Jammie Seiber and Dorothy (Sis) Davis. He is survived by his wife, Cookie (Lorraine); one daughter, Renee Nork (Gary); one son, Joe (Kim); one grandson, Nicholas Nork; one sister, Shirley Vaughan; one brother, Russell Martin and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe retired as general manager of Windsor Farms Inc. after 35 years. He tried retirement for 6 months, but then re-joined the workforce and had spent 17 years as a driver for Lakewood Manor, when he fully retired. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan, as well as Atlanta Braves and UVA fan. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and cutting grass and his family. He was graduate of Hermitage High School as well as a lifetime member of the Hermitage High Band and Auxiliary Boosters. Joe recently became a member of Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church where he had attended the last 62 years and served on the Building and Grounds Committee. Joe was a good Christian man, a kind man and a loving man who will be greatly missed by all. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 29, 2021 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bliley's, 8510 Staples Mill Road, Henrico, VA 23228. Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church, 2300 Dumbarton Road, Henrico, VA 23228. He will be laid to rest following the service at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Pilots Lane, Richmond, VA 23222. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church Building and Grounds.
